Garbage is also collected by street sweeping agencies, volunteer cleanup organizations, and through consumers who bring their waste directly to the solid waste management company. Once solid waste is collected, it is routed to a recycling facility, a garbage facility that can handle toxic waste, composting center, or disposed of.
When determining if waste is hazardous or not, realize that all hazardous waste, whether it is solid or liquid, such as run-off, is considered solid waste. Waste that does not fit into any of the listed classifications by the EPA may be considered hazardous if it meets one of these additional classifications; the waste is ignitable, corrosive, reactive, or toxic.
