Corn (also called maize or wheatgrass) is a plant belonging to the family of Gramineae and arrived in Europe only after the discovery of America. It’s a hot season plant that requires abundant light and higher temperatures than other cereals to develop. Corn is a hard and resistant cereal, the fruit of which - called caryopsis - is usually used for animal and human nutrition.
For the conservation and sale of corn, the cereal needs to be adequately treated and this treatment requires special solutions. For storage, in fact, it is necessary that the corn is brought to a safe drying level. Corn can be dried from any moisture content; however, for optimal results it is recommended to carry out the drying operation with a humidity rate not higher than 30%. For the drying of corn destined for storage and sale, the air temperature inside the dryer is normally 110 °C. In general, this temperature must be in accordance with the use that will subsequently be made of corn.
